My story of surviving and recovering from a ruptured brain aneurysm and stroke.

In December 2025 I opened my eyes after emerging from what felt like a vacuum-sealed, airtight dark place. A sucking sound, and a pop. An unknown woman stood nearby; I sat in a recliner facing a window.

“What happened?” I asked. “Where am I?”

“You’re in the hospital,” she told me with kindness and patience. “You had a brain aneurysm, and a stroke. You’ve been here for forty days. Your family just stepped out. They’ll be back soon.”

Later I learned that this healthcare worker had probably answered these questions several times already from me. But for me, it was the first time. I have no memory of those forty days. I’ve spent my time since asking questions, reading health records, reading family notes, and trying to figure out where I was for so long.
